I am living in Tokyo. However, urban life for me is not interesting. I always travel to prefecture around Tokyo to see the nature and food! Japan has a lot of food those only cook in specific area.
Last time I went to Chichibu area in Saitama. It was a lovely place. If you like to see the nature that close to Tokyo. I really recommend this place for you to visit. In summer, you can try rafting at Nagatoro in Chichibu area and also visiting waterfall in this area such as Marukami Waterfall. In autumn, there are many places for you to visit and see the beautiful color of maple.
Special food in Chichibu area is “Buta Miso Don”(Miso Pork Rice bowl). Chichibu is in the mountain so there are a lot of wild boar in this area and people here have been using miso to preserve hunted wild boar. Now, they are using miso to preserve pork instead of wild boar. The first restaurant that started Buta Miso Don in Chichibu is “Nosaka” in year 2000. This restaurant is very famous! They grill Buta miso by charcoal fire. Moreover, the rice of this restaurant has been cooking with water from Chichibu which very famous for cleanness because it came from the headwaters in Chichibu area.
The photos show how big of large size of Buta miso don! This is the big size of the restaurant and it is only 1550 yen serve with pickle and miso soup. The taste was awesome and the smell of charcoal was totally appeal you to continue eating without boring. I finished it in one breath. If you like chopped green onion, you can add extra of it.
