It is so hot now in Japan so I went to Gifu to eat an original cool sweet dessert. It is not an ice crème but Mizu Manju! Mizu Manju is one of a signature dessert in summer time. It is fresh and cool and sweet. Mizu Manju is different from ordinary Manju because it is transparent! Mizu Manju mostly filling of red bean paste. However, some shop may make Mizu Manju filling with green tea paste, strawberry paste, and etc.
If you go to Gujo city in Gifu prefecture, you will find a lot of fresh Mizu Manju shop. They will put Mizu Manju in the bath in front of their shop.
However, Mizu Manju originally from Ogaki city in Gifu prefecture. There is a shop name KINCHOUEN SOUHONKE in Ogaki city which is very famous for Wagashi(Japanese Dessert). You can enjoy variety taste of Mizu Manju at this shop too.
The most important thing is Mizu Manju only available in Summer time! So, don’t miss the opportunity to eat Mizu Manju! It’s only once period of time in a year.
