Hi everyone!
This is part two of our series on the five steps to working in Japan!
This time, let us explain about “STEP 2: Apply”.

After finishing your resume, you will need to look for a suitable job in Japanese companies.
In fact, there are more than 40,000,000 companies in Japan. How many companies can you name out of these 40,000,000? What kind of companies are you interested in working for to build your career and future in Japan?
Of course, maybe t’s difficult to say without more information. But, thinking about these things during applying is really important for your career. So, let’s think about what you should be aware of when applying with us!

■ What to do before applying

1. Think about future career in Japan

Set goals and plans, and work out what you should be doing from here on. Think about your career—what sort of person do you want to become in the future? Work out how your previous experience is connected to Japan, and what you expect to gain from moving to Japan. It’s important to clearly understand what it is you wish to achieve.

Also, it’s necessary to think of specific reasons why you want to work in Japan.
As we introduced in a previous”5 Steps for Working in Japan” article (posted last April), the population of working people from foreign countries is increasing year by year (Chart 1) .
To compete with those people, it’s important to have a clear vision and concrete reasons why you want to work in Japan.

2.Look for a job that suits you

After you’ve figured out your reasons for wanting to work in Tokyo and the goals you absolutely want to attain, you need to look for a job. When searching for work, you need to make sure your hopes are appropriate and realistic —what are the circumstances of the industry that you’re interested in? How do you rank your own experience?Especially you have to take care about the 2 things below.

★VISA・・Whether you can obtain working visa in Japan or not is related to what you have studied in university and the career you have built. It is important to focus on what you want to do as your career, but it’s smart to choose positions to apply for where your past experience can be put to good use.

★Language・・Japanese skill is necessary to work in Japan. Some foreign-owned enterprise in Japan do not require Japanese skill, but this is only a few cases. Japanese skill is one of the important point that you have to care about when you look for a job in Japan.
